Band Bio

Formerly known as Gas Money, Robot Taxi is the result of two guitarists, Daniel Hew and Vernon DaCosta, sharing their mutual appreciation of rock music. Between them the idea of forming a band was inevitable. After having recruited seasoned crooner Fabian Pinkney and drummer Akiri Cooper, the band played their first show in November, 2005. In 2006 multi talented instrumentalist Andre “Spyda” Dennis was drafted to play bass.

The band’s musical influences are wide and varied, ranging from The Stooges, Metallica, and Incubus to The Skatalites, The Wailers, and Stevie Wonder; they have been musically compared to groups such as Maroon 5, Alter Bridge and Incubus. Their resulting mix of guitar-driven- rock music infused with soulful vocals has earned Robot Taxi a loyal fan base.

Since their formation, some of Robot Taxi 's more high-profile appearances have included Smile Jamaica (a local television morning show), and the internationally acclaimed Air Jamaica Jazz & Blues Festival. They have also been featured in a number of local publications such as the Jamaica Gleaner (a national newspaper) and Youtlink (local teen magazine).

Robot Taxi has since evolved and added depth to their music, reflecting their maturity as musicians. While 2010 saw the departure of founding member Daniel Hew, the band has taken their sound to the next level with the addition of 17 year old lead guitarist, Jason Kong.

Their original songs, edgy covers, killer live shows and vibrant fan base, proves without a doubt that Robot Taxi will take it’s place as one of the premiere bands in the Yaad Rock music scene.
