Originated in 2007, Comic Book Theory are a Jozi based outfit, playing an infusion of attractive alternative melodies and indie influenced rhythms. Add in the headbanging influence of progressive rock and some evocative lyrics and you get an idea of where their sounds at…fresh and original

Originally known as Romeo and, the band went through a variety of changes not only in terms of members but also ambition and dedication to the project which led to the ultimate change to “the Comic Book Theory”. This change also signified a widening of the horizon in terms of content and material, getting rid of the “emo” label.

The current set-up consisting of four members was finalised April 2010, playing their first gig together on the 29th of July the same year. The Comic Book Theory is Michael “The Talent” Ronald (vocals and guitar), Thozi “Riotboy” Sejanamane (guitar), Duane “Jock” Behrens (bass) and Anton Wood (drums).

In their one-year history the members have entertained at venues such as Tanz café, Cool Runnings (Victory Park & Benoni) and Rockabillys sharing the stage with the likes of Captain Stu, the Monroes and Guns go Bang.

The Comic Book Theory’s writing and musical influences include Blink 182, Emery, Kings of Leon, Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Offspring, Manchester Orchestra, AC/DC, Vampire Weekend and many others.
Allowing the natural expression of their band to dictate their sound has brought this variety of influences into one fresh and unique sound that is the Comic Book Theory. The four musicians who comprise Comic Book Theory are dedicated and focused on fine-tuning the unique sound and fleshing out their stage presence; through learning, growing and expirementing to ultimately solidify this sound in the melting pot that is the South African music scene.
