Kalye Timog, a resto bar located at 64 Timog Ave. Cor Scout Torillo, Q.C played host to a night of fierce, heart-stopping music and unforgettable performances as the final four band vying to represent our country to the prestigious Global Battle of the Bands 2011 was decided last July 30 during the competition’s 2nd NCR Heat. Despite the rain and the usual Saturday night traffic, the venue was packed to the hilt with bands, supporters and onlookers eager to witness the competition.
Esteemed judges Czandro Pollack, Russel Eustaqio and Noli Aurillio were given the unenviable task of selecting the final four that will advance to the next level from this year’s deep pool of talent. Out of the final entries, four bands emerged as the night’s biggest winners: ska-punk band Jeepney Joyride, acoustic rock outfit Roots of Nature, heavy metal rockers Slash N’ Burn and rock and roll group Thy Holy Water.
Aside from advancing to the next heat to determine which band will ultimately be the country’s representative to the said event to be held in Europe on 2012, the four bands together with the other winners from previous heats like Anhura, Circa, Final Vow, Pancake 80, Penguin and Wilabaliw will also have the privilege of undergoing a developmental workshop tagged as ‘The Road to The World Finals’ to be held by some of the countries most respected musicians.
The judges however were quick to point out that selecting the winners were very difficult for them and were quick to congratulate all of the entries for their excellent performances and drive to keep the spirit of true Filipino music alive.
The night was hosted by DJ XOMBIE from GBOB Radio, rocking together with the featured performances from guest bands The Bill Cleantones, Fingertrap and Pusakal. Noli Aurillio also gave a surprise performance and enthralled the crowd with an electrifying acoustic performance that highlighted some of the most significant moments in original Pilipino music. The event was streamed live through www.radiopilipinas.com.
According to Crunchman Cervantes of Bluefish Asia, the National Director of GBOB Philippines - the search will continue in Cebu and Davao this August and September. True enough that the battle for the best pinoy band that will represent the Philippines is still ON.
GBOB Philippines would like to thank all of the sponsors; My Phone, Indiepinoy.com, URFACERADIO, Red Horse Beer Pambansang Muziklaban, P&P Tattoo, The Blaster Team Studio, AlterEgo Interactive, Business Mirror, OFW Today and Bobson who made the event possible.
