The Moroccan edition of the Global Battle of the Bands 2010 has come to a close. After four weeks, four concerts, and forty bands, a winner has been named. The national final took place on Saturday, December 11th at the Mohammed VI concert hall in Casablanca. A total of twelve different bands came head to head with the ultimate goal of winning the coveted place at the global final, to take place in Malaysia in February…
The lucky band on its way to the Kuala Lumpur is Nope! Nevertheless, there were other winners in Hell’s Rockers and Gnawa Click, respectively coming in second and third place. The two bands have the unique opportunity of recording their music with El Boxo Records, an affiliate of Xerus Media. The production company will also cover press kits as well as the bands’ websites.
A variety of prizes were offered by Yamaha Music to the most outstanding musicians of the competition: guitarist Ali of Hell’s Rockers, singer Omar of Crutch & Stones, bassist Saad of Despotism, and drummer Smail of winning band Nope. Hell’s Rockers Ali also received an award for the best look, winning him and his band an exclusive photoshoot.
Xerus Media would like to thank all of its partners who have given support throughout this musical and cultural journey. A special thanks goes out to the volunteers whose enthusiasm helped bring everything to life. Finally, we would like to thank the bands who participated in this first Moroccan edition of the Global Battle of the Bands. They displayed immense professionalism and heart, and were examples of the rich variety and musical bounty this country has to offer. We will be looking to them for upcoming projects. The Global Battle of the Bands adventure is just beginning!
